Mental illness is inextricably linked to HIV/AIDS, as a casual factor and as a consequence, while treatment of mental disorders and support for people living with HIV/AIDS is key to both improving their quality of life and preventing the further spread of the infection. Various initiatives have been undertaken in order to promote integrated approach to mental health and HIV in various countries. More Project “Developing HIV/AIDS & Mental Health Programs in EU countries (Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria) - MAIDS” is being implemented between September 1, 2009 and August, 31, 2012. More In 2006-2009 Mental Health and HIV project in Southeastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia was implemented by Global Initiative on Psychiatry (The Netherlands). More On March 1st 2010 GIP's first MAIDS project started in Africa. More Effective interventions aimed at integrated approach to HIV/AIDS may be threefold :
